Success at Upper Thames Autumn Head

Sunday was the Upper Thames Rowing Club’s Autumn Head, raced over approximately 3,000 metres from Greenlands to the Regatta Finish, with racing in two divisions of around 150 crews each. Henley Rowing Club enjoyed a very successful day, with wins coming from the youngest to the eldest of the club’s squads.

The under-14 girls in their quad scull had a convincing win, beating second-placed Thames Scullers by over two minutes. The boys’ under-14 quad also secured victory, overcoming Reading Bluecoat School and two crews from Wallingford RC.

Likewise, the under-15 girls’ quad of Lottie Cotton, Eliza Vann, Darcy Kenny and Amber Kriefman, coxed by Anton Otenko, claimed a strong win over a competitive Wallingford crew. The under-15 boys’ quad of Rohan Shanker, Henry Featherstone, Charlie Chapman and Jonathon Paine, coxed by Eva Lily Worboys, sculled superbly to win their event by 17

seconds, again ahead of local rivals Wallingford.

The second boys’ J15 boat encountered some steering issues and placed fifth.

The J16 girls’ quad of Polina Bezuhla, Erin Goodall, Emily Robinson and Camilla Barlow continued the club’s fine form, winning their event by 24 seconds and beating another local rival, Marlow, into second place.

In the sweep boats, the junior girls’ crew of Evie Meeks, Chloe Hughes, Daisy Millard and Molly Hall, coxed by Elise Pindoria, competed in the women’s coxed four event—not only winning comfortably but also beating several women’s eights and all but one of the coxless fours.

The Masters B 2x of Jack Barrett and Mike Lambourne won their event at a canter, while the Masters B 4– of Steve O’Connor, Nick Friend, James Padmore and Marcus Bateman were the fourth-fastest 4– overall.
