We are proud to announce that our President and former chairwoman of Henley Women’s Regatta, Miriam Luke has been awarded an MBE in recognition of her outstanding contributions to women’s rowing.
A Legacy of Leadership and Dedication
With a remarkable tenure spanning over 35 years in the rowing world, Mrs. Luke has left an indelible mark on our club. Taking the helm of the Henley Women’s Regatta in 2012, she implemented groundbreaking changes that have propelled the event to new heights. Under her visionary leadership, the regatta introduced live video streaming of all races, fostering a global audience and attracting nearly 2,000 athletes from around the world.
A Champion on and off the Water
A decorated athlete, she clinched silver in the women’s double sculls at the 1997 World Championships and secured gold the following year. Her prowess continued with a silver at the 2000 Sydney Olympics as a part of a women’s quad, alongside her younger sister, Guin Batten.
Coach, Steward, and Community Pillar
Beyond her accomplishments as an athlete and administrator, Mrs. Luke is deeply ingrained in the fabric of Henley. Serving as the coach of the women’s junior squad and a steward at Henley Royal Regatta, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of the sport locally and internationally.
A Heartfelt Congratulations
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Miriam on this well-deserved honour. Her dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to the sport have not only elevated our club but have also inspired countless individuals to pursue their rowing dreams.
