Junior Boys Achieve Double at Kingston

With two victories by 3 feet, Henley Rowing Club’s boy’s squad certainly had an exciting day’s racing at Kingston Regatta on Saturday (12 July).

First up, the J16 4x of Charlie Green, Oscar Newson, Harrison Bartels-Thiel and Maxim Lusenko overpowered Tideway Scullers School in the final to finish 5 lengths clear.

The final of J15 8s in the heat of the day was much tighter. Henley’s crew was Sebastian Lee, Diego Petrosillo, James Weeks, Oliver Rowley, Miles Vann, Flynn Burrow, Franco Bigmore Wallace and Samuel Byerley. They were down by half a length after 250 metres, but slowly began to gain on Kings College School, Wimbledon, A finalists at National Schools Regatta in May. In a final surge past the spectator enclosure, Henley finally go their bow in front to win by 3 feet.

Four of the J15 8, Diego Petrosillo, Flynn Burrow, Franco Bigmore Wallace and Miles Vann, then repeated the same 3 foot margin in the exciting final of J15 4x. Here they raced Barn Elms and Globe Rowing Club, with the lead moving back and forth between Henley and Barn Elms. Again just past the enclosure, Henley pushed ahead to take the win.
