Wycliffe Big Head

Given that the Thames is flooded and out of bounds for most rowing Henley RC has been doing most of its water training at the Eton Dorney rowing lake but competition has been none existent with all recent Thames based events cancelled. A trip last weekend to Gloucester though rectified this when the Club competed at Wycliffe Big Head, held over a 4500 meter course on the Gloucester Berkeley Canal, with bridges wide enough for only one crew to pass through and bends it made for interesting racing.

The Women’s under 18 eight of Issy Hughes, Holly Jackson, Lilian Graham, Evie Meeks, Scarlett Hyde, Sophie Floyd, Polina Bezuhlyi  Daisy Millard cox Emily Robinson despite missing a couple of the top athletes still put in a winning performance to take a 16 second victory over Wallingford RC.

In their first sweep race and first in an eight the Women’s under 15 eight Holly Mordecai, Zeffie Whiteman, Lottie Cotton, Eloise Askin, Liv Baker, Amber Kriefman, Darcy Kenny, Charlotte Roberts, cox Eva Worboys raced well to pick up a win with a 30 second victory over Wallingford’s J15s.

The girls WJ14 quads 1st boat  and winner Emma Groat, Matilda Groh, Katie Clegg, Eliza Vann, Pelin Girgin cox, and 2nd boat Camille Bolton. Grace Grant, Aurelia Buckingham, Martha Lowe, Belle Pennington-cox a very impressive first and second place with 55 seconds between them and third placed Monmouth Comprehensive School.

The boys J15 quad had a slightly tighter race securing their win with a 2 second victory over another Wallingford crew.
