Henley Rowing Club had winning crews at all three of last weekend’s regatta’s, Marlow Spring on Saturday, Wallingford Sunday and The Junior Sculling Regatta Monday.
Marlow saw the younger and less experienced crews racing over its 800m three lane course. Wins coming from the WJ14 quad of Amber Kriefman, Eliza Vann, Zeffirelli Whitman, Olivia Baker and cox Eva Lily Worboys and both of the boys J15 single sculls events band one being won by Sebastian Lee and band two by Ollie Rowley then at the other end of the age spectrum Henley masters won Women’s Masters F quads.
On Saturday at Wallingford over the 2000mtr course at Eton Dorney the girls competed in WJ15 eights, WJ 16 eights and WJ 18 eights. The WJ15 eight with some new starters in the crew finished third in their heat but this was not quite quick enough to qualify for the final. The WJ16 eight won their heat comfortably and the crew of Emma Floyd, Sophie Floyd, Lauren Pollard, Daisy Millard, Grace Haldane Scarlett Hyde, Ella Butler, Holly Jackson and cox Elise Pindoria went on to win the final just as comfortably ahead of Surbiton High School. The WJ18 eight Evie Meeks, Jess Mack, Lillian Graham, Chloe Hughes, Charlotte Tong, Nicollette Pagdin, Jemima Butterworth, Molly Hall, and cox Elise Pindoria won their heat but the final saw them having to come from fourth place after a below par third 500m which left them too much to do in the last 500 finishing second behind St Edwards School but just ahead of Shiplake College.
Monday saw the girls and boys back at Dorney for the Junior Sculling Regatta, the first race for all crews is a time trial with the fastest six crews going to the A final, and depending on the number of entries crews 7 to 12 the B final 13 to 18 C final. Nine out of ten Henley crews made it through to A finals and of these five proceeded to win medals. Jonty Stanbridge Bennett didn’t pick up a medal but put in a strong performance to come fourth in the final of J18 single sculls, sculling well in difficult conditions which saw the organisers have to cancel some of the minor final. The boys under 15 quad Franco Bigmore Wallace, Flynn Burrow, Sebastian Lee, Mile Vann and cox Anton Otenko won bronze in a close fought race with Yarm and Windsor Boys. The girls under 16 quad Scarlett Hyde, Daisy Millard, Sophie Floyd, Holly Jackson, went one better and took silver. Also picking up a silver medal was the girls J18 quad of Jess Mack, Nicolette Pagdin, Chloe Hughes, and Charlotte Tong. Both of the boys under 14 quads made it to the final with the crew of Charles Chapman, Ethan Taylor, Henry Featherstone, Rohan Shanker, and cox Oscar McKenzie Smith taking the silver medal. The clubs gold medal came from the girls under 14 octuple of Charlotte Roberts, Lottie Cotton, Eloise Askin, Darcy Kenny, Amber Kriefman, Eliza Vann, Zeffirelli Whitman, Olivia Baker and cox Elise Pindoria who had a convincing win over Headington School in second.
