Henley Rowing Club Juniors enjoyed an excellent day of racing at the Maidenhead Junior Regatta on Sunday 17th May 2026, competing in sunny and calm conditions over a 600-metre course.
The regatta, which is run on an invitation basis, is designed to provide less experienced or less successful junior crews with a greater opportunity for competitive racing and success than at a traditional regatta format. Clubs and schools from across the region took part throughout the day.
Henley’s J13 squad enjoyed notable success in both the girls’ and boys’ divisions.
In the girls’ event, the crew of Isla Boreham, Matilda Woolford, Poppy Simmons and Ellie Robinson, coxed by Hadley McKean, produced a series of dominant performances. They defeated three crews from Headington School and two crews from Lady Eleanor Holles School, winning each race comfortably.
The boys’ crew of Harry Buntine, Theo Wedd, Leon Hughes and stroke Josh Marett, coxed by Tim Lancaster, also secured victory. They beat a Guildford crew by two lengths in a competitive group that included crews from Maidenhead Rowing Club, Great Marlow School and Bishopsgate School.
Racing throughout the day followed a repechage format, allowing crews a second opportunity to progress if they lost their opening race. The regatta also featured different competitive bands within each age category to accommodate varying experience and ability levels.
Henley were additionally represented in the J13 Open Band 2 category, where they beat a crew from Great Marlow School in their opening race before losing to Maidenhead in the final.
