Interested in joining our Junior Mens squad?
Here is what you need to know.
High Performance Centre
In recent years through the efforts of our athletes and coaches, Henley’s junior mens squad has come to be recognised as a high performance centre of excellence for boys’ rowing, especially sculling.
Tried and tested programmes
Henley’s coaches have developed tried and tested programmes on water and land that have brought remarkable results, enabling boys of all levels of ability to fulfil their potential.
Results – National
Punching well above our weight, the junior mens squad has in recent years achieved outstanding successes at national events including numerous gold medals at National Schools Regatta and British Junior Rowing Championships in all age groups from J14 to J18. Most recently, the club won gold in Championship Quads at National Schools Regatta in 2019. At Henley Royal Regatta in 2019, the club not only had three quads qualify for the Fawley Challenge Cup (one reaching the final), but all three were “selected” crews, which is thought to be the first time that a “treble” has happened at the regatta in any event.
Results – International
As detailed below, numerous Henley boys have in recent years gained GB vests, but in October 2019, a crew from the Henley squad won the quads event at the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston, USA. In doing so, they broke the course record.

Supporting those who seek GB selection
Our programmes give tried and tested support to those seeking GB selection. Last year three of the Henley squad represented GB in the Junior World’s in Tokyo, remarkably providing three of the five GB athletes competing in the sculling discipline and one in the quad at the Coupe de Jeunesse in Italy. This was the second year running that Henley athletes have raced in the GB quad at the Coupe, with the crew winning gold in Cork in 2018. There is however no need for a member of our JM squad to go anywhere near a GB trial. It is perfectly possible to have a very rewarding experience as a member of our squad without that extra level of commitment.
Opening doors into the future
Achieving rowing excellence at Henley can open up new opportunities. Assisted by their rowing, boys from the club have recently gained entry to US universities including Yale, Princeton, University of California and Dartmouth. Others have gone on to UK universities classified as high performance centres by British Rowing.
Modern equipment
Our fleet of boats is modern and from major boat builders including Empacher, Filippi, Hudson and Wintech.
Training times
Weekday training is from 2 to 4 nights per week, depending on age group, and double sessions on Saturday and Sunday mornings (except J13s , one only)
