Masters

We have a strong and growing Masters squad of experienced rowers who compete at national and international level and less experienced rowers who have already achieved some success and are eager to progress.

With over 100 active Masters and growing, Henley Rowing Club embraces all abilities and aspiration levels at both sculling and sweep with a fleet of club boats that cater for all boat classes, with the expressed aim of creating a convivial and fully integrated environment for all Masters.

Currently the mix of active Masters is 60:40 of women to men, with the men now starting to grow at a slightly faster rate. There is a healthy mix of recreational rowing and competitive events suitable for beginners right through to those wanting to compete at the highest level of competition.

HRC offers 'Learn to Row' courses where the complete beginner gets a strong foundation in rowing with the aim of progressing and integrating into the main Masters squad.

Our optional coaching is very popular with 75 people participating in structured weekend coached sessions from experienced and qualified coaches. These include on water outings (including race preparation and race strategy), and land training, when the weather is inclement, covering ergos, weights and circuits.

We also have self-organised midweek sessions on the water and in the gym with the option of participating in supervised weight training sessions.

Private lessons are also available if desired from a one-to-one session in a single to race preparation in a crew boat.

An increasingly useful feature of the Masters squad is the use of external guest speakers to provide specific focus on key topics and disciplines.

HRC encourages Masters members to take active roles in club operations, in order to bring their specific skills and network contacts to the overall progress of the club.

Together, we all take the club forward

The Masters squads have had huge success over many years, both nationally and internationally.
