Henley Rowing Club featured in Michael Portillo’s Great Railway Journeys. The last of the current series ended in Henley on Thames where he learnt about the Boat Race and Henley Royal Regatta in the River and Rowing Museum.
Michael visited Henley Rowing Club and was given a brief introduction to rowing on the ergo by boatman and Senior rower Stan Admiraal before stepping into an eight to row down the course.
He learnt that rowing could be a challenging business and was relieved to step onto dry land and change into his trademark coloured blazer to deliver his closing remarks to camera clutching the infamous Bradshaw’s Guide.
The club was pleased to be able to host the presenter and production team and provided the boat, crew and launch to ensure a successful day.
