Impressive start to new season

Wallingford Long Distance Sculls

Henley Rowing Club opened the new season with 6 wins at Wallingford Long Distance Sculls last weekend under sunny skies. The Wallingford course is particularly challenging raced over 4500 metres upstream and with a number of complex bends thrown in it requires the coxless boats to show great  skill to navigate the course and negotiate overtaking of other crews.

Wins came in WJ18 quads, Ella Morgan, Lauren Kay, Clare Pearson and Emma Lister beating not only all the junior boats but many of the senior women boats. With  partner Florence Wiggins, Ella Morgan also won WJ18 doubles.

The dominance in the  WJ16 events was underlined by Georgie Robinson Ranger being placed second and Mary Wright fourth in a the WJ16 singles from a field of 24, Charlotte Moss and Issy Jonsson were second in the WJ16 double, and Rebecca Lister, Grace Johnson, Alice Jones and Charlotte Moss finished second in the WJ16 quad.

Competing in the senior event of Women’s Novice quads the J15 girls of  Esther Morgan, Pheobe Fletcher, Felicity Parfitt, Bobbie Miles and cox Freya Reid notched up the sixth win of the day.

With not only six wins but all the crew boats finishing in the top four places the squad has great strength in depth and will be looking for another successful season.
